Breath of Life

BREATHING
SOMETHING MOST OF US
TAKE FOR GRANTED
EVEN THOUGH
I WORK IN HOSPICE
AND SEE PEOPLE
CLOSE TO THEIR
LAST BREATH
I WAS NOT
PREPARED TO WATCH
MY TINY NEPHEW
ON A VENT
UNABLE TO BREATHE
ON HIS OWN
FIGHTING INCREDIBLE ODDS
AT A POUND AND A HALF
WANTING TO LIVE
AND STILL FIGHTING
ELEVEN WEEKS LATER
THEN TODAY
MIRACULOUSLY
HE CAME OFF
THE VENT
A HUGE STEP
FOR SUCH A LITTLE GUY

So Grateful,
His Great Aunt Debbie
